TTR: Knocking on the Door

An improvised, as-I-go first TTR fic for me. So, er, be nice. Or
something. :-)

Polly yawned and stretched at her post at the doors of This Time
Round. It had been a fairly quiet night so far. Adric had only been
killed three times as opposed to six (as was usually customary for
Monday evenings); the Doctors' drunken rendition of "I'll Take You
Home Again, Kathleen" had (thankfully) abated, and although she
suspected it was the lull before the storm, Polly decided now would be
a good time to put her feet up on the sign-in desk and relax.

"*cough*"

Polly started, almost falling off her ergonomic back chair (her latest
offering from the staff of TTR) as she tried to regain her dignity as
All-Powerful Admitter of Persons to This Time Round. Of sorts.
She squinted at the two figures in front of her.

"Erm. Hi. This is the bar, right?"

Polly nodded, reaching for her clipboard.

"Who're you, and are you on my list?" she asked. Now she could see
them, she noted their appearance. One was a young woman, one a young
man, but they both looked similar... like twins, maybe? Hmm. Didn't
ring any bells immediately.

"Er. It's a bit complicated, see," said the woman. She looked at the
man and shuffled her feet. "It's all my fault really..."

Polly held up her hand to stop an awkward explanation.

"Name and appearance, please?"

"Um. Ancestor Cell. Well. For him. He's Ryssal. Although he is me...
sort of. I'm Alryssa."

Polly checked her list. There was his name. But not hers.

"I can't let you both in, if you're not both in a novel or a fanfic."

Alryssa shuffled again.

"How can I put this. He's me. Er, that is to say, I started it, and
the author... finished the thought?"

Polly put down the clipboard. That headache was threatening to come
back in a big way, and bring its friends.

"He's you?"

"Um. Yes."

"All right, I think I get it. You asked to get killed off by an author
as a joke, and the author took you up on it, thereby creating another
version of you."

"Basically."

Polly sighed. She hated it when they did that.

A loud yelling erupted from the building. The two newcomers jumped.

"What on Io...?" asked the two of them, in sync.

"This is one of the quieter nights." Polly rolled her eyes. "Are you
sure you want to go in there?"

Ryssal looked at Alryssa.

"At this point, if I don't get my required daily dosage of Guinness,
I'm going to have to kill something," Alryssa replied. Polly thought
she just might do it.

"Well, I think Nyssa might have an ally..." she mused, as she opened
the doors and let the two wander into the chaos that was This Time
Round...
