The Doctor, Jo, and Bond found This Time Round unusually crowded for a
Sunday night. "Romana!" the Doctor shouted to the bartender as they entered,
"break out the projector!" He brandished a film canister to cheers from the
crowd.

"What've you got?" called Doctor Five as Romana set the projector on a
table in the center of the room, and Harry and Barbara removed the pin-up
posters from the far wall.

"It's an outtake from the XIA," said Jo as the Doctor began to thread
the film through the projector.

"Gadzikowski announced he was putting an extended chase scene in his
chapter," said Bond. "But he used up his week just getting to the point when
the chase was to start. The advertised chase scene lasted half an alley."

"This is the dropped scene that was to start the chase sequence that
wasn't written," said the Doctor, finishing up. "Lights!" Romana turned the
lights off and the Doctor started the projector, flashing onto the stucco
wall a view of a row of shops on a friendly English street.

--

The Doctor and Bond rushed out of the shop into the street. It was empty.

"Where've they gone?" said Bond.

Across the street the garage door of a firehouse exploded.

The Doctor and Bond leapt out of the path of the fire engine barrelling
toward them. Even as it turned and began accelerating up the street, siren
revving and lights flashing, they each spotted the Master and Jo in the cab.

"Bessie's gone!" the Doctor shouted to Bond as they picked themselves
up. Bond charged into the firehouse, flashing his official ID at the firemen.

The only vehicle left there was one of the hook-and-ladder engines that
was so long it had a second steering wheel in the back.

"You take the rear end," said Bond.

"I always have to be the rear end," grumbled the Doctor.
